OUR PASTOR

Pastor Retha Daniels

 is the lead Pastor and CEO of Center of Refuge Church in Albany, GA. She is a native of Albany, Georgia. She was given the mantle and ordained as lead pastor of Center of Refuge Church, January 2010. Through her belief, “I am a Whosoever”, God has given her a vision to reach those souls that are lost and persons that are broken. Pastor Daniels is a community leader, who has not only spear-headed community events with her mother, Apostle Hope, but has volunteered in several events such as T.E.A.M. (Together Everyone Achieves More) Community Outreach/Annual Thanksgiving Dinner, Food Bank/World Vision, H.O.T.S.sm (Helping Our Teenagers Survive!) Summer Reading & Tutorial Program, Saving Highland Avenue (Neighborhood Watch against Criminals/Prostitution) and the Miss Deborah Women’s Scholarship Pageant. Pastor Daniels is a firm believer in ministering, training and providing tools such as life skills, education and mentoring to God’s people so they will be effective in God’s kingdom! Her ministry aims to ensure not only are people saved, but equipped to live 3 John 1:2 “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” She is passionate and very real about her relationship with God, which is expressed candidly through her preaching as she shares her personal testimony so that others will overcome.

OUR CHURCH HISTORY

Founder (the Late) Apostle Annie W. Wingfield 

is the founder of Center of Refuge, Incorporated (formerly known as Faith and Prayer) in Albany and Sylvester, Georgia. Believing God, they opened the doors of their first church, Faith and Prayer in Sylvester, Georgia in the early 1980’s. As the ministry in Sylvester, Georgia began to expand, God told her to begin another ministry in Albany, Georgia. They literally laid the foundation brick by brick. With their faith and through their prayers, the ministry in Albany, Georgia was up and running in 1985. They began F&P’s food bank, soup kitchen, clothing bank, and summer reading tutorial program. In 1988, Founder Apostle Annie W. Wingfield and George Wingfield opened up a transitional house for women struggling with substance abuse. A few years later, they launched Faith and Prayer’s Christian Academy, which educated children, grades K-12. Founder Apostle Annie W. Wingfield and George Wingfield have received numerous awards and accolades from the community and political leaders such as Congressman Sanford Bishop and Albany’s former mayor Tommy Coleman.

Apostle Gwendolyn T. Hope, Th. D.

served under the leadership of her mother, Apostle Annie Wingfield, and under Apostle George Wingfield for 25 plus years. She was licensed and ordained as a Pastor and Prophet under Faith and Prayer, Inc. where Apostles George and Annie Wingfield served as pastors. In December of 2000, she caught the mantle of her Apostles George and Annie Wingfield to lead the ministry with clear directives from the Father, increasing the number of souls saved during her tenure. She became Dr. Hope in 2006, upon obtaining her doctorate degree in theology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In May, 2008, Faith and Prayer Ministries, Inc. shifted its name and its location. It became Center of Refuge Church, implementing a new structure with larger classrooms, administrative offices and additional spaces for training and equipment. The Center of Refuge brings restoration and revelation to the body of Christ.
